Collaborative Projects
Project Lemonade
We are the only New Zealand school involved in this collaborative project with the Lower Merion School District in Ardmore, PA, and classrooms around the globe. Inspired by the true story of Alex Scott, Project Lemonade was started to get kids to think about how they can make a difference in the world. When faced with her biggest challenge, Alex decided to start a lemonade stand to raise money for cancer research. Alex’s Lemonade Stand has drawn national attention, and has raised millions of dollars for pediatric cancer research. Watch Alex’s Inspiring Story….
This project will encompass the participation of classrooms all over the world. A 5 month long project duration will enable classrooms to connect , whenever, wherever. 3 videoconference events will take place to connect kids from other countries and cultures. Through videoconferencing, blogging, and a wiki, students will work together to solve real problems in their own school, community, country, and the world. Students will debate, discuss, and generate questions based on essential questions that will drive the project. The project will culminate with a product to be shared via Ex: video, podcast, etc. This project is about real world problems and how we can make a difference in the world.Room18’s page on the ProjectLemonade wiki can be found here.
Sir Edmund Hilary VoiceThread
This VoiceThread is a tribute to Sir Edmund Hilary, an amazing, gracious, and humble New Zealander, who sadly, passed away in January of this year.
This VoiceThread has been made public and available to students around various New Zealand schools to add to. As it is the beginning of our new school year we will be discussing in class the qualities of good learners, qualities of greatness and qualities of awesome people. Sir Edmund Hilary is such an inspiring role model of those sorts of qualities.
If you would like to contribute to our Sir Edmund Hilary VoiceThread, just click this link to record your thoughts, or record straight from the voicethread above. You can click on any of the pages and record your message there.

Life ‘Round Here
Our latest collaborative project runs from September 07 - October 07. We’re creating a movie each that shows what life is really like in New Zealand. The images used will be original photographs taken by ourselves and only 6 movies will be selected to go through to the official Life ‘Round Here website for judging by International Guest Judges. This is the second project that Mr Craft and his class in South Carolina, USA, have invited us to join this year.
Our working page for this project is here.
Salute to Seuss
We’re involved in the Online Project organised by Technospud Projects (Jen Wagner) called “Salute to Seuss” in the 50th Anniversary Celebrations.

We also had the opportunity to Video Conference with Huntsville, Alabama at 7.00am (our time) 2.30pm the day before (Alabama’s time). We’ve decided to create a wikispace together so that we can keep in contact with our new friends in Alabama. Keep checking back here to see the links when the wikispace has been created.
New 7 Wonders
Beginning in Term 2 is our newest wikispace, new7wonders. Our class will be joining with a Year 8 class in our school to explore the existing Seven Wonders of the World. Next we will be researching our choice for the new Seven Wonders of the World and producing a presentation to convince our classmates why ours should be included in the new 7 wonders.
ProjectFeelGood
Our awesome collaborative project, all about what makes us feel good, with the Middle School students of an International School in Malaysia. We are learning to use MovieMaker whilst our collaborative partners are using iMovie. Together we are building this wiki to teach each other about the programme we’re using in this project.
Comparing Our World
Eight students are collaborating with Mr Craft’s class in South Carolina, on our behalf. This wiki is building with comparisons between participating countries on such things as the economy, clothes, personal technology, freedoms, food, sports and Television. It’s still in it’s early stages but it’s growing! Go take a look.
